In response to the accelerated pace and increased impact of climate change, The New York Times hosted a series of four international events to catalyze conversations into actions. Work-Order created a coded identity for the series, articulating and undulating the abstracted qualities of nature.

Climate changes everything

A visual manifesto teed-up each day’s programming. Our poetic short film highlighted the connections between the climate and journalism, positioning attendees as collaborators in improving our shared future.

Focal point

An open-ended representation offers more generous solutions. At the center of the identity system is a circle, representing our small, fragile planet as well as the spot, or place, where we need to focus. It’s a space for us to concentrate our energies and a reminder of our position within a much larger universe.

Waveforms

The focal point lives within a lush and enveloping landscape of waveforms, reminiscent of the organic world without directly representing it. Across nine nature-inspired colorways, the undulations mirror patterns from the environment rather than charted data.

A living, generative system

We developed a custom Processing solution to code the waveforms, allowing for an infinite array of iteration. Each event, from London to New York, San Francisco to Sharm El-Sheikh, further expands the system.
